00:02 Normally I'd be coming to you from Levi's Stadium or the Niners practice field.
00:06 Unfortunately, I had a flight to catch so I am coming to you from San Francisco
00:10 International Airport about to make my way home to Boston after seeing my 16th
00:15 training camp that was with the Niners, what I believe might be the best roster
00:19 in the league. I got five takeaways from there.
00:20 Takeaway number one, Brandon Iuke has put together another fantastic training camp.
00:24 Second year in a row, you're hearing that from me.
00:27 He looks again like he's improved his route running.
00:30 He's taking another step in becoming a more complete receiver.
00:33 And by all accounts, worked his ass off this off season.
00:37 Looks like he's a guy on a mission in training camp.
00:40 Now the Niners did pick up his fifth year option back in May, and
00:45 now he's eligible for a new deal.
00:46 They typically have waited until after a player's fourth year.
00:48 That'd be this year for Iuke to do a new deal.
00:51 But Iuke has certainly set himself up for a big payday.
00:54 Takeaway number two, Christian McCaffrey looks better than he did a year ago.
00:59 And he looked really good after being traded from the Panthers.
01:02 But that's not the story in the backfield.
01:03 They know how good McCaffrey is.
01:05 The story might be a second year player named Tyreon Davis Price.
01:09 Everybody knew he was talented back in 2022 when he came out.
01:12 The question was motivation, drive, football makeup, those sorts of things.
01:16 The Niners are really optimistic now that the lights come on for him.
01:20 And he's gonna wind up being a really nice compliment in the backfield
01:23 to what McCaffrey brings to the table.
01:25 Takeaway number three, Brock Purdy.
01:27 Now everybody wants to know where he's at.
01:30 My belief, my sense is that he's gonna be back full throttle next week.
01:33 They'll be able to take the range off.
01:35 He was out at the practice that I was at.
01:37 I saw him make a couple throws that I think would make you feel good about where
01:41 his elbow is.
01:42 One was he threw flat footer from a closed down pocket.
01:45 Things crashing down around him, out to the sideline to Debo Samuel.
01:49 They believe he's a lot better than his draft position.
01:52 They think he can be a long term quarterback for them.
01:55 So I think Purdy's in a really good spot a few weeks out from the opener.
01:59 Takeaway number four, Cleland Farrell.
02:00 You remember that name?
02:02 The fourth overall pick of the Raiders.
02:04 Might be going through a little bit of a career renaissance in San Francisco.
02:07 And we've seen this from the Niners before on the defensive line.
02:09 With the way the personnel department's been able to unearth some guys who
02:13 may have flat lined or bottomed out in other places.
02:15 Guys like Arden Key and Samson Ekebom.
02:17 And through the work done by their defensive line coach, Chris Kuterek,
02:21 who's by many people's feelings the best defensive line coach in the NFL.
02:28 Well, Farrell always played hard.
02:30 He always had lengths.
02:32 And where he is now with the Niners might be a better scheme fit than he was
02:37 in Vegas early in his career.
02:39 So that's one guy to watch.
02:41 Cleland Farrell could be in for a career renaissance.
02:43 Finally, takeaway number five, I think it's the best roster in the league.
02:46 I said that earlier.
02:48 The team, because of that, doesn't have very many position battles going on
02:52 in training camp.
02:53 But you do see depth being built in certain spots.
02:56 And one spot where I think there's really good use right now is linebacker.
02:59 They drafted a couple of kids late.
03:00 They like both of them in particular.
03:02 The winners at a TCU.
03:04 The great front line talent's now being backed up with depth.
03:09 This is going to be a team to be reckoned with, no question about it.
