00:00 Hi, I'm digital reporter Amy Seddon and this is your news from across the North West on
00:05 Wednesday August 2nd.
00:07 A serious collision involving a van and a child closed a residential road in Penrhythm.
00:12 Emergency services were spotted responding to an incident in Sumtercroft at around 5pm
00:17 on Tuesday afternoon August 1st.
00:19 Residents in the area said the incident involved a pedestrian and that the road had been cordoned
00:23 off at Billsborough Head.
00:25 Lancashire Police later confirmed the incident was a serious road traffic collision involving
00:29 a van and a child.
00:30 Officers remained at the scene at 7.30pm to investigate the collision.
00:35 A parsnip-like plant that has been hailed the most poisonous plant in Britain by experts
00:40 has washed up on St Anne's Beach.
00:42 The 8ft stalk of Hemlock Water dropwort, which can be deadly to humans and dogs, was spotted
00:47 near the Sand Yachting Club at the weekend.
00:50 A dog walker recognised the toxic plant, also known as Dead Man's Fingers, and wanted to
00:54 alert others.
00:56 Ian Lithgow said "I had a dog with me and no bag or gloves, otherwise I would have removed
01:00 it.
01:01 My dog would have thought I was playing a game if I had dragged it off the beach and
01:04 put it at risk, so I thought I'd take a photo and warn others on Facebook."
01:09 A new family business which opened yesterday in Morecambe has been overwhelmed by the support
01:14 they have received from the public.
01:16 N&S Bargains on White Lund Avenue in Morecambe opened its doors at 9am Tuesday and is selling
01:22 short-dated, just-past-best-before and long-dated branded food and soft drinks.
01:27 A spokesman for N&S Bargains said "Had lots of messages today.
01:30 Sorry if I haven't answered everyone.
01:32 I've been really busy getting ready for tomorrow."
01:35 Hopefully this answers most questions and being asked, we accept cash and card payments.
01:40 No membership required.
01:41 The shop is open to everyone.
01:42 We are open Tuesday to Saturday 9am to 4pm and Sunday 10am to 3pm.
01:48 Lastly, I would like to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone that has liked, commented
01:52 and shared our posts this last week.
01:55 As a new small family business, we have been overwhelmed by all your support.
02:00 A mum and young daughter were left injured after an unqualified driver from Wigan Borough
02:05 drove into their car whilst making an illegal overtaking manoeuvre.
02:09 Aidan Dodd, a Lee man, who was only a provisional licence holder and was uninsured, struck the
02:15 victim's Renault Clio whilst attempting to overtake a car on a blind bend.
02:19 Liverpool Crown Court heard that fortunately, Hayley Hughes, a horse riding instructor,
02:23 managed to swerve as Dodd's black VW Golf headed towards her.
02:28 Her car was written off and she and her 8-year-old daughter suffered seatbelt injuries but luckily
02:33 were not more seriously hurt and her sleeping 2-year-old son was unscathed in the back seat.
02:39 He was jailed for 14 months.
02:42 Burnley has its critics, many of them, but a new video made by a rapper, music producer
02:50 and former award-winning breakdancer is showcasing the town as a vibrant, friendly place to be
02:55 and a tight-knit community where everyone is always willing to help each other.
03:00 And the showreel by Lee Abbott has already clocked up to 50,000 views on YouTube.
03:04 'The message I want to get across is that we all have our struggles and it is okay to
03:08 reach out for help,' said Lee, who was Burnley born and bred.
03:12 'No one, whoever they are, should be ashamed to ask for help, whether that's from a food
03:15 bank or counselling, there's absolutely no shame in it.'
03:20 In the video, his rap refers to the different areas of Burnley that are their own self-contained
03:24 communities such as Burnley Wood, Icton Hill and Rose Grove.
03:29 He also talks about how humble Burnley people are and how they stick together in tough times.
03:35 And now for the weather, in Preston, Blackpool and Lancaster, it will be highs of 17 Celsius.
03:41 It will be cloudy throughout the day and night time and there will be rain in the afternoon.
03:46 In Wigan, it will also be temperatures of around 17 Celsius and it will be cloudy, however
03:51 Wigan remains dry for most of the day.
