How to Make Ice Cream Cake

  • last year
This chilled dessert is much easier to make than you’d think. In this video, Nicole shows you how to make a homemade ice cream cake using chocolate ice cream. This recipe starts by baking a standard box cake using eggs, water, and oil. Once the cake has been baked, completely remove the ice cream from the rectangular container and cut it in half. Place the cake over the ice cream and trim the sides to fit. Finally, let the cake freeze together. It’s simple, decadent, and refreshing on a hot summer’s day.

00:00 Ice cream cake is the perfect treat for summer,
00:02 and this version is oh so easy.
00:04 Of course you can use whatever flavor you want.
00:06 I'm doing a chocolate ice cream cake
00:07 starting with chocolate box cake mix.
00:10 So you're just gonna prepare your cake
00:11 according to the package directions.
00:14 I love a box cake mix 'cause you don't have to worry
00:15 about wet and dry ingredients.
00:17 It all goes in at one time.
00:18 All right, after you've mixed your cake,
00:20 you're gonna choose the option for a nine by 13 pan.
00:23 This makes it for easy serving,
00:24 and you don't have to worry about any layering.
00:26 Easy as cake.
00:28 Mine goes in at 325 for about 30 minutes.
00:31 I'm gonna let it cool completely before we do the ice cream.
00:34 Cake is out, smells good.
00:35 We're gonna let it cool completely on the wire rack.
00:38 You cannot be putting cold ice cream on a warm cake.
00:41 That one in the middle.
00:43 Now for the ice cream layer.
00:45 If you can find your ice cream in a square carton,
00:48 that's gonna be best.
00:49 Peel the sides away and then cut this whole loaf.
00:54 Now I'm gonna place these two halves
00:56 onto some wax paper or parchment paper.
01:00 See where I'm going?
01:02 Now the cake is gonna be slightly larger than the ice cream,
01:05 so we're gonna trim off some of the edges.
01:07 At this point, I'm popping it back in the freezer
01:09 because it melts really fast.
01:12 And then, once it's hardened again,
01:14 we'll turn it back over onto our serving tray.
01:16 All right, now for the fun stuff.
01:21 So whatever you're gonna serve your ice cream cake on,
01:24 you're gonna place that upside down
01:27 and then we're gonna turn the whole thing over.
01:29 I'm just gonna peel that away.
01:33 She cute.
01:34 I'm gonna kinda smooth out that ice cream a little bit
01:37 and make it look like the top of a cake.
01:39 So we're done.
01:40 Obviously, you'll wanna serve this immediately
01:43 or you can put it back in the freezer just like this
01:46 until you're ready to eat.
01:47 We're digging right in.
01:50 How cute is that?
01:53 To finish it off, I'm gonna do a little chocolate sauce
01:56 and sprinkles.
01:58 That's a whole cake of perfect bites right there.
02:00 You know what cake and ice cream tastes like.
02:04 This is just that.
02:06 Just like it's all melting down into the cake.
02:09 See that?
02:10 The simplicity of this dessert combined
02:12 with the low cost factor makes this something
02:15 you absolutely have to make this summer.
02:18 Listen, we're doing this in a nine by 13.
02:21 That makes for easy.
02:23 (beep)
02:25 (upbeat music)
