00:00 A young man's body laying on the street, his front door left wide open.
00:07 Hours earlier, neighbours woke up to the sound of gunfire.
00:10 It's very quick, I was amazed at the speed of the shots.
00:13 So it was like bang, bang, bang, bang, bang and gone. That's it.
00:16 I heard the gunshots and then just tyres screeching, driving away.
00:20 Came out like a couple of minutes after, just to have a look,
00:24 and I saw the gentleman just lying there.
00:27 28-year-old David Stemmler was shot several times about 2am.
00:31 Paramedics couldn't save him.
00:34 Shortly after, nearby residents saw two men lighting a car on fire.
00:39 I've come running out here and caught the two fellas over here with jerry cans
00:42 starting to douse the car and I've screamed out to them
00:45 and they've hit the light and just ran down the street.
00:47 The victim was known to police and had links to local drug supply.
00:52 Police believe he may have walked out of his house to meet someone
00:55 when he was gunned down.
00:57 The man's bloodied body was in full view of children on their way to school.
01:02 I feel very sorry for those children who have had to see that
01:05 and I believe we'll be in touch with the Department of Education
01:08 in relation to any counselling that those children might need.
01:11 He's the fifth person to be shot on Sydney streets in the past five days.
01:15 Ahmed Al-Azzam has just died in hospital after he was shot in the head
01:20 while sitting in his car at Greenacre on Sunday.
01:23 And today a car smashed into this Punchbowl pizza shop
01:27 in an attempted kidnapping which police believe is linked to organised crime.
01:32 They believe this week's attacks could all be connected to a series of other recent shootings,
01:37 beginning with the murder of Alan Meradian in Bondi Junction on June 27th.
01:42 It's important that we look for and assume, as I said,
01:45 that these are linked at this stage until proven otherwise.
01:49 And so therefore if they're linked there's a common denominator
01:52 and we need to find out.
01:54 They've launched Task Force Magnus
01:58 with 100 officers dedicated to tracking down those involved.
02:02 Engaging with the criminal environment,
02:04 engaging with those people to try and establish links and sources.
02:08 They believe illicit drug supply is at the centre of it all.
