We asked local Lancastrians where the best places in the county are for the odd day-trip...
Transcript
00:00 I'm Derek.
00:01 Lovely to meet you Derek.
00:02 So we're just doing a bit of chatting to people about the best place in Lancashire for a day
00:08 out just to chat me through where your choices are.
00:11 Best place for a day out, well where I live for a start, Lytham is always a good day out,
00:15 the Fylde Coast, everything you could want there really, from nice wide open beaches
00:19 down at St Tans and then Lytham Hall, that's an excellent day out and a bit of a best kept
00:26 secret I think.
00:27 Other than that, drive up into the hills up to Clitheroe, that's always a very pleasant
00:31 place to walk around and to be honest with you, you've got a lot of choices really, read
00:38 any of the local magazines and you'll be filled with inspiration.
00:41 Yeah definitely.
00:42 I suppose we're quite lucky in that we've got some lovely coastline like you say on
00:44 the Fylde Coast but we've also got inland, you know, Trofferbowl and Forestbowl and places
00:48 like that which are equally as, it's kind of gorgeous but they're kind of more hidden
00:51 aren't they?
00:52 They are more hidden and I think people need to take the opportunity to get out and explore
00:57 it really because there's something for everybody isn't there?
01:00 From the bright lights of Blackpool right through to somewhere where you can have absolute
01:05 solitude up in the, like you say, the Forest of Boland or somewhere like that.
01:09 Definitely tell people to holiday local then?
01:12 I think it's not a case of holiday local, everyone needs a change but I think one of
01:17 the things we realise, or don't realise a lot of the time is because we have our heads
01:20 down and a busy work life, when we do have time to decompress, stuff's at our doorstep.
01:25 I'm here with Stu who's from Preston but who lives in LA with his family now.
01:29 So Stu, talk me through why you're visiting over at the minute and what you love most
01:32 about Lancashire.
01:33 Yeah, well this is my home so I love it.
01:35 We're visiting because my parents are here so we come back every year, give these girls
01:38 some Prestonian roots as we're in LA.
01:42 What do you like best about Preston guys?
01:46 So she likes Warburton's bread, you can't get it anywhere else.
01:49 I call it Emmy.
01:50 She calls it Emmy bread, her name's Emmy.
01:52 Emmy bread, your special bread?
01:54 Yeah.
01:55 And what about just travelling locally?
01:57 So obviously we've got places like Blackpool and Lytton and then Clitheroe just for day
02:01 trips.
02:02 What are your favourite places to go visit?
02:03 So we like the lakes a lot.
02:05 My parents love hiking so they go to the lakes a bunch.
02:08 We like actually the cafe culture in Lytton and St Anne's as well.
02:11 I mean they're old so there's a lot of elderly folks around there.
02:14 Good community.
02:15 Yeah, exactly.
02:16 Yeah, nice.
02:17 I suppose we've got a nice blend in Lancashire of the coastline and it is quite rugged but
02:21 we've also got inland with like the forestry and you know the lush nature of it all.
02:25 Is that something which you appreciate obviously with LA and the nicer weather you get there?
02:28 Yeah, we don't see much green out there so we look back to the winter peak and felt.
02:32 You know, running around, chasing squirrels and stuff.
02:36 You know, the rascals.
02:37 What are the best places to go on holiday locally?
02:40 Here?
02:41 Here?
02:42 Do you like Preston?
02:43 What do you like about Preston?
02:44 I like that my grandma and granddad live here.
02:47 Yeah?
02:48 What are your favourite things to do when you're visiting your grandparents?
02:51 Play on the pier.
02:53 Yeah.
02:54 How often do you visit?
02:55 Pardon?
02:56 How often do you get to come and visit?
02:57 Once a year.
02:58 Once a year?
02:59 Hi guys, so we're just chatting to people today about their favourite places to go on
03:03 day trips in Lancashire.
03:04 There's some favourite things about Lancashire really so just talk me through what your favourite
03:07 places are.
03:08 Yeah, so we really like Blackpool, don't we?
03:09 Yeah.
03:10 It's good fun.
03:11 So you've got the arcades, you've got Pleasure Beach, you've got Sandcastles to pat out.
03:12 There's also quite a lot of nice places to walk like there's Buckholes and Beaconfell.
03:17 I've been before.
03:18 Yeah, I've really been to Beaconfell.
03:19 And there's some quite cute bookies as well.
03:22 I can't remember the name of it but there's one just north of Preston near Goosner and
03:28 it has a really nice little cafe there that's really good as well.
03:31 So yeah, it's all good.
03:32 I suppose Lancashire's got a really nice balance of it being it's got the coastal stuff like
03:35 with Blackpool and Livermore and places like that and it's also got the further inlands
03:39 including their own places like that.
03:40 It's quite, you know, it's nice for nature lovers as well.
03:42 Do you think it's good that we've got that kind of balance?
03:44 I think it's quite good, yeah.
03:45 I think it's better, even in cities like in Preston, obviously here where it's just outside
03:48 of the UK and there's still quite a lot of trees and stuff, you don't feel like quite
03:51 an urban city.
03:52 But if you do want that, it's just Manchester's only about 45 minutes on the train.
03:56 There's a nice nightlife as well for students.
03:58 Yeah, that's quite true as well.
03:59 We don't really have an issue with it, there's not much to do.
04:02 We have levels, we do bowling, laser tag, mini golf and then also there's cafes where
04:07 you can sit and have a nice coffee or just go town shopping and that.
04:11 Yeah.
04:12 It's amazing.
04:13 Brilliant stuff.
