00:00 Rob Brown, Sideline Sports in Memphis.
00:02 You're the son of a coach, and I remember your dad
00:05 when he coached, and he's a big influence on you.
00:08 When I was in school at Auburn, at the end of the year,
00:09 all my friends used to go in with Coach Dye,
00:11 and they'd kind of show you where you fit in
00:13 on the depth chart.
00:14 Sometimes you didn't fit in, they'd say move on.
00:16 Do you still get to have those conversations with people?
00:19 'Cause I worked with a kid for 12 years in Memphis.
00:22 His dad coached at Alabama, and he was basically
00:24 a human concussion dummy, he told me.
00:26 And he got the hell beat out of him,
00:28 but he made it five years through that system.
00:30 Graduated, got that letter on the wall.
00:32 And he can go in anybody's office in the state of Alabama,
00:35 and they say, you went through all that,
00:37 and just got to hug your parents on senior day?
00:39 You loved it that much?
00:40 Do you have those conversations with people,
00:42 and remind them what it means to stick it out and not quit,
00:46 come back to Oxford one day, and what that can do for 'em?
00:49 Wow, that was a long one.
00:51 (laughing)
00:53 Too much coffee.
00:54 That's not coffee, that's Red Bull.
00:57 (laughing)
01:00 I do think that's really missed nowadays,
01:05 and that's the generation, but that's portal.
01:09 And unfortunately, outside of probably walk-ons,
01:13 we don't have that much anymore.
01:14 They just don't think like that,
01:17 and it's too much outside information coming in,
01:20 and it's too much grass is greener.
01:22 And I don't like what's going on,
01:25 so I'm gonna take my ball and run.
01:27 And unfortunately, that's the world that we're in,
01:29 so I do miss those stories.
01:32 We used to have them, usually with walk-ons,
01:35 but those are neat stories of different places of being,
01:39 and still having relationships with some of those players
01:42 that weren't the star player,
01:44 but were just like the amazing kid.
01:46 Or over time, it's been cool to hire a couple of them,
01:51 to get them into coaching or a recruiting department,
01:54 because their passion for the place,
01:56 or their passion for the game, to have that around.
01:59 Final question, front row.
02:01 Coach, Nick Brooks with WTVY in Dothan, Alabama.
02:04 First, you played Troy to open up your season a year ago.
02:07 They had, I think it was 10 to three,
02:10 or seven to three, going into the halftime.
02:12 Really competitive game towards the end of the fourth quarter,
02:14 just kind of your evaluation on that game.
02:18 And then the second question I have,
02:20 I actually get mistaken for you a lot.
02:22 I go to high school football games a lot,
02:23 and they'll actually call me Lane Kiff,
02:25 and I just wanna know what your thought is,
02:26 if you think I actually look like you,
02:28 or they're just seeing things.
02:32 - Yeah, that was the longest question.
02:34 That's the strangest question.
02:35 (audience laughing)
02:37 Now I don't even remember the first question,
02:39 'cause it was the last.
02:40 Do you get called Daniel Tosh, too?
02:42 - Yeah, actually.
02:43 (audience laughing)
02:44 - Yeah, you and Daniel Tosh.
02:46 - Okay.
02:47 I get that, actually, too.
02:51 I'll be walking through somewhere,
02:52 and somebody will be like, "Are you Lane Kiffin?"
02:54 And I'll be like, "No, I hate that dude.
02:56 "He sucks."
02:57 (audience laughing)
02:57 It's really cool, 'cause the conversation's over,
02:59 and you can keep moving.
03:00 And it's run down to my daughter.
03:04 She does it now.
03:05 She's like, "I don't like all the attention,
03:08 "'cause the last name's a people."
03:09 Be like, "Oh, are you Lane Kiffin?"
03:10 And she's like, "Nope, I heard bad things about her."
03:14 You know?
03:15 (audience laughing)
03:16 So she's kinda learned that same trick, too.
03:18 So I'm sorry that you get paired in with me,
03:25 but I would embrace it.
03:27 I would just go with it.
03:28 - I love it.
03:29 My Twitter bio is "Lane Kiffin's doppelganger."
03:31 And I got your, I think it's your headshot
03:34 from when you were playing college football with the Go team,
03:37 'cause I sent that to my mom, and she was like,
03:39 "Is that you?"
03:40 Like, she did not know it was a fake.
03:42 (audience laughing)
03:45 - What's your mom's name?
03:46 (audience laughing)
03:53 - I gotta ask my dad some questions now.
03:56 (audience laughing)
03:59 I would just embrace it and be like,
04:02 you probably get free drinks at places and stuff,
04:04 just depending on what state in the SEC you go to.
04:09 But, so, next question?
04:12 - Okay, I think we're done.
04:14 Thanks, folks.
04:15 - That's a good one, and...
04:16 (silence)
04:18 (silence)
