Apple has launched an online store on Tencent's WeChat messaging app in China, as part of its efforts to expand its retail channels in one of its key markets. WeChat, China's largest messaging platform with over 1.2 billion users, offers "Mini Programs" that function as apps within the platform, eliminating the need for users to download multiple apps. Apple's WeChat store is a Mini Program allowing users to purchase the full range of Apple products, including the latest iPhone 14 range. Apple has been gradually increasing its presence on major Chinese internet platforms, including Tmall and JD.com, to expand its reach in the country. Despite a challenging market, iPhone sales in China have remained resilient, growing 6% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2023, according to Counterpoint Research.
