376 HP A Coupe with Inline Six Options, New Mercedes-Benz CLE COUPE 2024

While slightly closer to the E-Class, it falls somewhere between the two in terms of size, as the 'E' in the CLE name suggests. So the 112.8-inch (2,865 mm) wheelbase makes the distance between the axles longer than their most obvious rivals, the BMW 4-Series and Audi A5, cars that could compete with the old C-Class Coupe. It's confusing, we know. Anyway, compared to the older C-Class Coupe, the CLE offers 2.8 inches (72 mm) more rear legroom and 2.1 cu-ft (60 liters) more luggage space in a trunk that can swallow three golf bags.

To add more confusion, visually and just keeping the name in mind, the CLE shares a lot with the current C-Class sedan, including a tapering nose, a relatively narrow grille with a body-colored frame (unlike the E-class sedan) . and a hood with twin protrusions implying a powerful V6 or V8. The difference is that unlike the C-Class sedan, the CLE actually delivers on that promise.

Key interior items are a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 11.9-inch reclined center touchscreen that floats slightly above the console. The app first appeared in the S-Class in 2020, is also seen in the Mercedes-AMG SL sports car and will likely feature in that car's coupe sibling, the upcoming AMG GT. Like the latest E-Series, it takes Merc's latest 5G-equipped MBUX infotainment system and architecture and lets you make Webex or Zoom conference calls, watch TikTok videos, and even play Angry Birds.

Also borrowed from the E-Class sedan are the petrol and diesel engines, all with mild hybrid technology, now offering 23 hp (23 PS / 17 kW) electric boost instead of 20 hp (20 PS / 15 kW). ) were offered by Benz's previous MHEVs. Manual transmission option? Yes that's true. The CLE gets a 9-speed 9G-Tronic automatic at every step of the range.

The first of these 4Matics is an all-wheel drive-only version of the CLE 200, but the CLE 300 gets a 255 hp (258 PS) version of the 2.0 petrol engine and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque instead. The 200's speed of 236 lb-ft (320 Nm) helps reduce the sprint time to 6.2 seconds. And finally, there's the six-cylinder CLE 450: 3.0 litres, 376 hp (381 PS), 369 lb-ft (500 Nm) and zero to 100 km/h in 4.4 seconds.

That's about as fast as the CLE gets for now, but at least one AMG variant is coming soon. An AMG CLE 53 powered by the same M256 3.0-liter turbo-six fitted to the recently updated GLE 53 will go on sale next year, according to an EPA document revealed earlier this year that lists the 2024 Mercedes lineup for North America. CLE 53 with 429 hp (435 PS) and 413 lb-ft (560 Nm).
