Turbocharged 3.0L Six-Cylinder Inline Engine, 375 Hp, All-Wheel Drive, New Mercedes-Benz E-Class 450 4MATIC 2024
2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
Starting at an estimated $60,000
The E-class sedan is an executive transport with a distinctly Mercedes-Benz attitude, offering almost as much class and content as the S-class flagship with a slightly less imposing profile. The entry-level E350 models are powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder powertrain with 255 horsepower, while the E450s raise the heat to 375 horsepower thanks to a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six. All-wheel drive is standard and all models are luxuriously equipped and include a wealth of driver assistance and infotainment features. Other European competitors like the Audi A6 and BMW 5-series offer similar space and equipment, but neither brand has the prestige that comes with the Mercedes-Benz badge.
This year marks the beginning of an all-new generation E-class sedan, redesigned from the ground up with more technology and luxury than the old model. The four- and six-cylinder drivetrains received hybrid boosts this year, resulting in power spikes and a nice new look to the exterior. Inside, a host of new technologies add color to the cabin. We expect to see the 2024 E-Class in dealer showrooms until the end of 2023.
Mercedes currently expects the 2024 E-class to be available in three trim levels: Premium, Exclusive and Pinnacle. Combine these with the two existing powertrains and the E-Class has six trim lines across a wide price range to appeal to a wide range of luxury sedan buyers.
Under the scalloped hood of the E350 is a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine paired with a 23-hp electric motor for a combined 255 horsepower. The E450 model gets a similar hybrid setup for the turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six that brings the total to 375 horsepower. Hybrid systems are said to reduce turbo lag and make the auto start/stop system easier to operate. We haven't driven the E350 yet, but the E450's inline-six engine uses its creamy power and does it quietly.
The interior of the E-Class has a lot of integrated technology, and buyers who want it can order an instrument cluster covered with three separate displays. It includes a digital display behind the steering wheel for the car's gauges and a separate display in the middle of the instrument cluster for infotainment. Mercedes-Benz has integrated some smart features like a selfie camera and downloadable third-party apps from TikTok, Angry Birds, and Zoom - or maybe it's creepy from your point of view. It has in-dash navigation and features augmented reality to superimpose directions in front of you via a head-up display.
