00:00 The ambition of this Dubai 2020 exhibition, Connecting Spirits, Building the Future, is
00:07 to say that the best way to build a sustainable future is to work together, sharing the best
00:14 solutions.
00:15 There are opportunities in architecture and engineering for creating solutions that rely
00:22 less and less on carbon fuels and this kind of thing.
00:27 This is a good example where we are because this whole area is designed like a traditional
00:34 township in this part of the world.
00:37 The buildings are close together, the streets are narrow, the buildings actually shade the
00:42 environment.
00:43 Most of our planting is indigenous, which means that it relies a lot less on irrigation.
00:48 If you think on a larger scale, the whole of the event is powered up to about 50% by
00:55 solar energy.
00:56 We are relying on a resource that we've got, plenty.
01:00 Thanks, enjoy Expo 2020.
01:03 And the other challenge is how to guarantee the site's durability, an exhibition by definition
01:11 that is ephemeral, by giving a new life to all these installations.
01:15 Where we are standing now is one part of what we'll call District 2020.
01:20 So our mandate when we started this was that we should retain as much of what we build
01:28 as possible.
01:29 All the main concourses turn into our roads, our theme pavilions remain as permanent buildings
01:37 for other uses.
01:39 These buildings turn into apartments and shops and little offices.
01:45 Within probably six months or so of closing, we reopen as District 2020.
01:51 So it continues this theme of, I mean, imagine living in an area like this.
01:56 This is just beautiful.
