00:00 Hi I'm Bailey and welcome to my YouTube channel.
00:03 I love to cook in the kitchen and especially decorate cupcakes.
00:08 But you can't decorate a cupcake if you don't have the cupcake.
00:12 So we're going to start with the cupcake.
00:14 If you've never made cupcakes before and you don't think you're good at it, it's super
00:18 easy and I'll show you how to do it.
00:20 Plus I'm going to show you my own special twist to add to the cupcakes to make them
00:24 more better-er-er-er.
00:25 Yep, that's a word.
00:26 For this simple recipe, all you need is a third cup of vegetable oil, one and a quarter
00:36 cup of water, three egg whites, and my special twist, almond extract.
00:42 First, preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
00:51 If you're not comfortable using the oven, ask an adult to help.
00:55 Now it's time to put the recipe together.
00:58 I'm using my favorite mixer from Christmas, but you can use an electric mixer or even
01:03 a whisk.
01:04 It doesn't matter.
01:05 Start by putting the cake mix in.
01:11 Ok, so the directions are right here on the box, but I'm going to tell you what to do
01:21 anyways.
01:22 Next, you add the oil and the water.
01:38 The trickiest part of them all is the egg whites.
01:41 You're going to need two bowls.
01:49 So just open an egg, crack an egg like you normally would, and let all the egg whites
01:55 that can spill out.
01:59 Sometimes I use the top of the egg to help get them out.
02:03 Now you try and pick up the yolk with the other part of the shell and let the rest of
02:09 the egg whites spill out.
02:12 Keep doing this until you feel that all the egg whites have come out.
02:17 And then put the yolk in a separate bowl.
02:22 Make sure you wash your hands after handling eggs because raw eggs can make you sick.
02:27 Ok, we got rid of the egg yolks and the shells, so now just add the egg whites to the mix.
02:38 Now it's time for the special twist, almond extract.
02:42 Trust me, it's great.
02:45 All you need is about a tablespoon.
02:48 Careful it comes out kind of fast.
02:57 Be on low speed for 30 seconds, then on medium speed for 2 minutes.
03:01 I never do that.
03:02 Just put it in the mixer and put it on medium speed until a batter forms.
03:06 It'll be a little bit lumpy.
03:17 It may seem obvious, but cupcake liners make your life a whole lot easier.
03:23 They come in all different colors and they make clean up so much easier.
03:27 Here's a helpful tip to avoid messes and to get the cake batter into the pan.
03:31 So you take a regular zip lock baggie and put it inside out with your hand inside it.
03:37 You just get a spoon, I'm just using an ice cream scooper, and you scoop it into your
03:41 hand like this.
03:46 Just do this in little chunks or however much you want to do.
03:51 If you don't have time to do it scoop by scoop, ask someone to help you get it in there.
03:59 Thanks Mary.
04:00 Next you want to pinch the little corner of the bag and cut a tip off with some scissors.
04:08 So then you hold the bag like this or however is comfortable for you and fill the cupcake
04:15 liners about two thirds full.
04:19 Do this for the rest of the cupcakes.
04:26 Now it's time to put the cupcakes in the oven.
04:28 Let them bake for about 20 minutes.
04:31 You see I could probably use this time wisely and go clean my room but I'll probably just
04:36 get on Instagram.
04:37 These cupcakes look pretty great.
