00:01 Hi guys!
00:02 Welcome back to my channel.
00:03 How are you today?
00:04 Let me get situated.
00:05 So, today I am here with a really important review on the eyeshadows that I'm wearing
00:15 today.
00:16 And, not too long ago, Marlena from Makeup Geek, which is also a YouTuber here, I'm all
00:21 trying to introduce you to someone.
00:23 I'm pretty sure you know who she is.
00:25 Marlena has the makeup line Makeup Geek, and while I don't have too much experience with
00:28 her products, or rather, I don't have any experience with her products, I'm not an affiliate
00:35 of Makeup Geek.
00:36 I don't have any other Makeup Geek products that I can compare to, but all I've seen is
00:41 stellar reviews from her products.
00:42 Her products are made in the USA, they're not tested on animals, they're incredibly
00:47 pigmented and affordable, and I'm just relaying the reviews that I've seen.
00:51 I can't speak from experience.
00:53 The only thing that I can speak from is my experience with the foil shadows, and like
00:58 I said, they were released not too long ago.
01:00 They're $9.99 each, and they're supposed to be foiled eyeshadows.
01:05 Foiled eyeshadows are basically metallic eyeshadows similar to pressed pigments, and they're supposed
01:11 to give you the foiled effect.
01:13 And the foiled effect is easy to achieve when you use a moistening agent, like a wet agent,
01:20 on a shadow.
01:21 These shadows are actually really awesome because they are very, very metallic, but
01:28 I don't know if it's just me and I'm a little bit more daring, but I feel like they're a
01:32 wearable metallic.
01:35 Sometimes there are shadows that are so metallic that I couldn't see myself wearing them very
01:42 often unless it was like New Year's.
01:44 There are some colors from the Stila ones, you know the ones that come in the little
01:48 pot with the mixing agent?
01:50 Those are very metallic.
01:52 It looks almost like you're wearing gold leaf.
01:54 And these aren't like that.
01:55 These are just really soft and buttery, beautiful metallic shadows.
02:01 They're kind of reminiscent of the new eyeshadows from Makeup Forever.
02:05 You guys know how Makeup Forever has those new eyeshadows and they have the mattes, the
02:10 metallics, the glitters?
02:12 They're very similar to the metallic ones, except those are, what, $22 a pan, and these
02:19 are $9.99 a pan.
02:21 So a little bit more affordable, but I'm pretty sure these have a little bit less product
02:25 because the Makeup Forever pans are pretty big, but still, I mean it's not half as much
02:30 product.
02:31 So they are very affordable.
02:33 They're beautiful shadows.
02:34 I'm wearing four of the eyeshadows right now.
02:37 The color that you see on the outer sides of my lid is this one right here, and this
02:42 is called Mesmerize.
02:44 And Mesmerize is like a purple-y taupe, and then I'm wearing this gold one here on the
02:51 outer, on the inner corner of my eyelid.
02:54 This one's called Magic Act.
02:56 Then I'm wearing this on the center of my lid, that little light that you see shining
03:00 through.
03:01 That's called In The Spotlight.
03:03 And then I'm wearing this green one called Jester on the lower lash line.
03:07 This one's kind of cool because it looks olive green in the pan, but once you apply it, it
03:12 has a really gold sheen to it.
03:15 So overall, these are really great shadows.
03:18 They claim that they don't require a primer, that they are long-lasting, but I think with
03:25 any product that is this pigmented and creamy, at the end of any day, you're going to have
03:32 some creasing, especially if you really build the color.
03:35 If you're really layering on that color and you're really trying to build up the pigmentation
03:40 or layer it on, it's going to crease.
03:44 So my recommendation is, just like I recommend with foundations, always wear a primer.
03:49 It's a crime not to prime.
03:52 So always wear a primer on your eyelids.
03:54 I'm wearing MAC's Paint Pot in Soft Ochre, just a neutral base.
03:57 So I'm going to bring you guys in closer and show you some up-close swatches.
04:01 So let's start off with this beautiful purple shade right here, and this is called Caitlin
04:05 Rose.
04:06 This is a really beautiful, just classic purple shade, and you can see just one swipe over
04:12 the pan how buttery and soft it is.
04:14 This is a really beautiful, classic purple shade.
04:18 I kind of wanted to do a look using it because it's so pretty.
04:22 This one here is called Center Stage, and you can tell it's a beautiful blue.
04:26 With these shadows, though, can you see that giant nick?
04:28 These are those shadows that if you accidentally nick it, boom, your nail's going to go right
04:32 into the middle, like right down to the bottom of the pan.
04:36 Look how beautiful that blue color is.
04:39 I wanted to do a look with this blue and purple, but I was like, "Ugh, Dani, relax.
04:45 Do something a little more wearable first."
04:48 Then we have this color Houdini, and Houdini is just like a, almost like a dark peacock
04:54 color, like a dark teal, and I really like it.
04:59 I really thought this one was going to be my favorite.
05:03 You see how beautiful that is?
05:05 But it's actually not.
05:06 It's not my favorite.
05:07 It swatches a lot darker than it looks in the pan.
05:11 Then this one is Jester.
05:12 Jester is the green with that gold base to it, so one I'm wearing on my lower lash line,
05:20 and I was actually quite surprised with this one.
05:22 When this one arrived, I thought it was going to be one of the ones that I liked least,
05:25 but it's actually one of the ones that I've been liking the most out of all of them.
05:29 That's right there.
05:30 One of the ones that I think everyone is going to fall head over heels over is Flamethrower,
05:35 and that's this really beautiful amber, reddish shadow.
05:40 Look how soft this is.
05:41 Isn't that beautiful?
05:42 It's showing a little orange on camera, but it's just ... Oh my God, you guys, look at
05:49 that.
05:50 One swatch.
05:52 This next one is Showtime, and Showtime is hard to describe.
05:56 It's like a really dark cranberry color, but I feel like it has a little bit of silver
06:01 fleck in it.
06:03 It doesn't quite catch it.
06:04 Let me show you guys what I'm talking about.
06:07 It's like a really dark cranberry, almost like a brownish cranberry.
06:12 Do you see that little silver fleck that it has to it?
06:15 Then I'm going to show you the one that is the majority of my eye look today.
06:20 The majority of my eye look today is with Mesmerized, and Mesmerized is a hard color
06:25 to describe.
06:26 It's almost like a grayish purple.
06:32 Let me show you.
06:33 Those really soft eyeshadows that give you that crustiness on your finger.
06:39 Then we have Grandstand, and Grandstand is a really beautiful color.
06:46 This is I think like a classic amber shade.
06:49 Look at that.
06:51 You see that?
06:52 It's like an antique gold, like an antique rose gold.
06:57 Let me swatch that for you right here.
07:01 You see that?
07:05 Isn't that stunning?
07:06 Look at how it captures the light.
07:07 It's absolutely beautiful.
07:10 Out of all of them, that one's one of the most wearable, most everyday, most absolutely
07:17 take your breath away shadows.
07:19 Then we have In The Spotlight, and that is this shade right here.
07:23 In the pan it just looks like peach.
07:25 It's just like a beautiful peach shade, but it's more of like a champagne colored eyeshadow
07:30 when you swatch it on your finger.
07:31 Do you see that?
07:33 It's just a really beautiful champagne shade.
07:37 I'm going to swatch that right next to the one I just showed you guys.
07:40 You see how it captures the light, that reflect?
07:43 Oh my God, this is like melted metal in pans.
07:47 The last shade in the collection is called Magic Act, and this is just a really soft
07:52 gold.
07:53 Can you guys see the makeup scab that I was talking about?
07:56 There is that shade right there.
07:57 Can you guys see it?
07:58 Isn't that beautiful?
07:59 Look at how the light reflects all of these shades.
08:03 Those were the swatches up close, and you can tell.
08:07 Look at how these shadows just grab the light.
08:10 Isn't that crazy?
08:11 Like all reviews that you guys watch, you always want to be cognizant that when you
08:14 do a finger swatch, it's going to be a lot thicker, a lot heavier, than it's actually
08:20 going to show up on the skin.
08:22 The skin of our eyes, or using brush upon application, it's like doing a blush swatch.
08:27 The way you swatch it on your hand is not necessarily true as how it's going to show
08:32 up on the skin.
08:34 These swatches literally take your breath away.
08:37 When you apply them, they're beautiful metallic shadows, and for the price point, $9.99 each,
08:43 it's a really good quality product for great results that it gives you, and it's very affordable.
08:49 If you were looking to incorporate maybe some more metallic or foiled eyeshadows into your
08:54 collection, this might be the route to go.
08:57 I do have to say that Marlena hit it out of the park with these shadows.
09:02 There's 10 in the collection.
09:03 I will list them in the description box below, and I will just put the general link of where
09:08 you can find them.
09:09 They're just beautiful eyeshadows.
09:11 Keep in mind though that Marlena's products don't come in compacts.
09:14 They come in pans, so you have to be ready to house them in something.
09:20 Have an empty palette ready to go, a Z palette, maybe an Uni palette where you can insert
09:25 your shadows, and they'll be safe.
09:29 They won't get damaged.
09:31 Be very aware of the softness of these shadows as well.
09:35 Any little nick or anything that happens to them, it will get smooshed.
09:39 They're so soft.
09:40 It's almost like a cream and powder hybrid.
09:44 It's not a cream product, but it gives you the results of a cream product.
09:49 It's really interesting.
09:50 The last part that I wanted to add to this review is, are these similar to any other
09:55 product that I have or that I use?
09:57 Like I said, they're very similar to the metallic shadows from Makeup Forever, but I did notice
10:02 that the results that I get from these shadows are very similar to the results that you can
10:07 get from the ColourPop ColourShock shadows without the mess.
10:12 These shadows are so soft and creamy and pigmented that they do have a little bit of fallout.
10:18 The good thing about the ColourPop ColourShock shadows, besides that they're $5 each, is
10:23 that they're cream.
10:27 They're almost like a puffy, cream, spongy, marshmallow eyeshadow, which I have a review
10:33 on and I'll link it down below.
10:35 You don't have fallout.
10:36 It sticks to your finger and there's no fallout because it is a wet product.
10:41 Even though it doesn't function like a wet product, it totally applies like a powder
10:45 product on the lid.
10:48 I do tend to prefer these just a little bit more, and the price point is ... I mean, it's
10:54 less.
10:55 It's half.
10:56 I'm a sucker for my ColourPop shadows, but that doesn't take away from how awesome these
11:01 shadows are.
11:02 If you're interested in getting them, they're totally Coffee Break approved.
11:05 I really like them.
11:06 I mean, let's talk about this for a second.
11:09 They're awesome.
11:10 I really hope you guys enjoyed this review.
11:12 Let me know your thoughts in the comment section below.
