00:00 This is a battle between two incredibly powerful and bulky animals, one having a fearsome weapon
00:13 and the other one being the most aggressive and dangerous animal in Africa.
00:17 Welcome to the seventh episode of Animal Battle, where we are going to decide which of our
00:21 two candidates will win the chance to compete further for the title "The Best Animal in
00:25 the World".
00:26 Ladies and gentlemen, it is my honor to present you our two candidates, the hippopotamus versus
00:33 the white rhinoceros.
00:34 Also, at the end of the video, I will announce the winner of the last Animal Battle between
00:38 the killer whale and the sperm whale, so don't miss that.
00:42 Let's do it.
00:43 I'm Mario and this is Animal Battle.
00:52 In order to find out which of the two animals is the winner, we are going to evaluate them
00:56 by six different characteristics.
00:58 Agility, attack, defense, intelligence, bonus skill and survival.
01:05 So only being more powerful isn't enough because the other stats are important too.
01:09 Firstly, you should know that the white rhinos are the largest and strongest existing species
01:13 of rhinoceros, although there have been way larger species in the past like the Paraceratherium.
01:18 And what do you think are the closest relatives of a hippopotamus?
01:22 Maybe pigs?
01:23 In fact, hippos are more closely related to whales and dolphins than other ungulates.
01:27 Now let's go right to agility stats.
01:29 You wouldn't have a chance of outrunning a white rhino because they reach speeds of up
01:33 to 50 km/h.
01:35 That is very fast.
01:36 But at least hippos don't seem to be able to catch you, right?
01:40 Look at its massive body and its short legs.
01:42 There is no way they can run.
01:44 Well, unless you are much faster than the average human, you will certainly be outrunned
01:49 by a hippo, because they can reach speeds of up to 30 km/h on land.
01:53 That looks impossible.
01:55 And they can move pretty fast in water too, reaching speeds of up to 8 km/h.
02:00 Look at him jumping out of water.
02:01 I wouldn't want to be in that boat.
02:04 Let's see their agility stats total.
02:09 Both are some pretty good stats for such massive animals.
02:12 Hippos are slightly better because they can move both on land and in water.
02:16 Coming next, attack and defense stats.
02:18 Hippos can reach lengths of up to 5.2 meters, and males weigh on average 1,500 kg, which
02:24 is about as heavy as a car.
02:26 The largest one recorded weighted 3,200 kg.
02:30 They are among the largest land animals.
02:32 White rhinos though are even larger.
02:34 They can reach lengths of up to 4.5 meters and can weigh as much as 2,300 kg.
02:39 The largest one recorded weighted 3,600 kg.
02:43 And their weapons are even more impressive.
02:45 The front horn of a rhino can be as long as 150 cm.
02:49 It can be used in fights with other rhinos or other animals.
02:53 The rhino can even throw animals into the air.
02:55 That is why predators like lions are very cautious around rhinos and don't try to attack
02:59 a rhino alone.
03:00 They can try to kill a young white rhino, but the mother will charge towards them protecting
03:05 its calf.
03:06 Adults are even harder to kill because they have a 5 cm thick skin.
03:10 Even though rhinos are not very aggressive, I would suggest not to approach one too much
03:13 because you aren't safe even in your car.
03:16 The hippopotamus doesn't have any horns, but it doesn't mean that it is less dangerous.
03:20 When it opens its mouth wide up to 180 degrees, you can observe its long canines, which can
03:25 reach up to 50 cm in length, and they are very territorial and aggressive.
03:30 Crocodiles or lions swimming nearby a group of hippos aren't safe because the hippo
03:34 will charge to them and will bite them with a bite force of up to 1 ton.
03:38 The battle between males are very dangerous.
03:40 They are biting each other and leaving deep cuts into the 6 cm thick skin.
03:44 In fact, they are the most dangerous animal in Africa because hippos kill more people
03:48 each year than lions, elephants, leopards, buffalos and rhinos combined.
03:52 You can scare a lion, but the hippo won't hesitate to kill you.
03:55 So adult hippos don't have any predators, and crocodiles, lions and hyenas can just
04:00 try to kill young ones.
04:01 Now let's see their attack and defense stats total.
04:05 So they have very high attack and defense stats.
04:10 Hippos being slightly better at attack due to their aggression.
04:13 Talking about intelligence, I can say that, well, they aren't the smartest animals out
04:18 there, having a very small brain in comparison with their body size.
04:22 So here you have it.
04:27 Well that was quick.
04:29 Moving on to bonus skills.
04:30 A huge bonus that both of them have is the fact that they live in groups, which makes
04:34 them stronger.
04:35 Although they aren't as social as lions, hyenas and wolves.
04:39 White rhinos can live in crutches or herds of up to 14 animals, mostly females.
04:43 A group of hippos contains one male and 5 to 30 females.
04:48 Rhinos have a very poor eyesight, but they get over it because they have a very good
04:52 hearing and smell.
04:53 Hippos secrete a red substance which makes them become pink.
04:56 Many people think that it is sweat, but it is actually a substance used as a sunscreen.
05:01 Also, both rhinos and hippos form mutualistic relationships with birds and respectively
05:06 fish.
05:07 Wildlife keepers eat the ticks and insects clinging the rhino, while they get food and
05:10 protection.
05:11 Carps and other fish eat the parasites and algae from the skin of the hippo, and the
05:15 latter gets cleaned.
05:16 Here are their bonus skill stats.
05:22 Good enough.
05:23 And last, but not least, survival stats.
05:26 So there are two subspecies of white rhinos, northern and southern.
05:30 Not a long time ago, there were only three northern white rhinos, two females and a male
05:34 which was guarded by four armed men non-stop, although the male didn't went to mate to
05:38 save a subspecies.
05:39 But here at M from Animals you get the freshest news.
05:42 So on 19th of March 2018, the last northern white rhinoceros male died, and with him the
05:48 whole species since there are only two females left.
06:00 At least there are way more southern white rhinos, and are listed as a near threatened
06:03 species.
06:04 But their population is still decreasing, because poachers hunt them for their horns,
06:08 which are sold on the black market and are worth more than their weight in gold.
06:13 Hippos are doing even worse here, because they are also hunted for their canines and
06:17 are listed as a vulnerable species.
06:19 Both hippos and rhinos can live up to 50 years, but if humans keep on hunting them, they can
06:24 become extinct in the near future.
06:26 So let's look at their survival stats.
06:32 Pretty low as expected.
06:33 In general, both hippos and white rhinos have high stats, but only one of them is the winner.
06:38 Who is the winner?
06:39 It is up to you, because you can vote the winner in the poll right there, and write
06:43 your opinions in the comments down below, and I will announce it in the next episode
06:46 of Animal Battle.
06:47 Also, let other people know how amazing and powerful these animals are, sharing this video
06:52 with your friends, if you have any, family, and most importantly, show it to your babushka.
07:00 What's that?
07:01 I forgot to tell you the winner of the last battle between the killer whale and the sperm
07:04 whale?
07:05 Ok, so, after counting all the votes, the winner is…
07:10 The killer whale!
07:12 It is just an amazing animal with very high stats, and it definitely deserves to compete
07:17 further for the title "the best animal in the world".
07:20 Those who voted the sperm whale shouldn't be upset, because we should realize that no
07:23 matter who is the winner, all animals are amazing.
07:26 So once again, don't forget to vote the winner in the top right corner, and if you
07:30 like these videos, maybe you should support them from my animals on Patreon, so that I
07:34 will be able to post more and better videos.
07:36 Respect animals!
