Classic Steam Train Collection - 4965 Rood Ashton Hall's "Shakespeare Express" debut.

  • last year
4965 Rood Ashton Hall has for many years been classed as one of Tyseley's flagship locomotives & for a while while Tyseley's main flagship engine 7029 Clun Castle was stored awaiting it's next overhaul, 4965 was to become Tyseley's most popular operating steam engine.

Originally thought to be classmate 4983 Albert Hall the engine was restored to working order being paired with one of the smaller Churchward tenders & outshopped in Great Western Railway lined green with the Great Western coat of arms & Great Western lettering on the tender. Upon discovering that 4983 was really 4965 the engine was outshopped in this identity and following it's return to steam in the late 1990's the engine was become the main engine for Tyseley's "Shakespeare Express" trains which would run from Birmingham Snow Hill to Stratford upon Avon running outward via Henley in Arden & back via Dorridge. As of 2023 these trains still run.

4965 was until it's withdrawal from traffic in 2019 was a popular engine on their "Shakespeare Express" trains but also on appeared "The Red Dragon", "Chester Carols" aswell as double header's involving Tyseley's second double chimney castle 5043 Earl of Mount Edgcumbe.

4965 is as of 2023 stored inside Tyseley shed awaiting it's turn in the overhaul queue.
