Following a repaint a few years earlier 45699 Galatea was running in the identity of scrapped classmate 45562 Alberta & despite some of the armchair brigade kicking off about the engine not running in it's true identity it proved to be a huge hit for enthusiasts & for the younger generation a chance of seeing an engine which didn't survive the cutters torch.
The original 45562 Alberta was an NBL Built member of the class being completed in Aug 1934, the engine recieved it's Alberta name 18 months later in Feb 1936. For the majority of it's career the engine was based at Leeds Holbeck (20A but later changed to 55A) but spent a brief period at Farnley Junction in 1964 before returning to Leeds Holbeck in 1966. With the demise of steam coming the engine remained in service until Nov 1967 when she was withdrawn from service, the engines service life being 33 years and 2 months. Following a period in storage in Normanton she was taken to Cashmore's scrapyard in Great Bridge and was cut up for scrap. While the original 45562 didn't survive into preservation the engines motion did survive and is now in use on 45699 Galatea, hence this being one of the reasons behind Galatea being dressed up at Alberta (infact for a while some people believed that Galatea really was Alberta, although this rumor proved to be false in later years).
For the early part of 2021's "Scarborough Spa Express" LMS Jubilee no 45699 Galatea was rostered onto the Scarborough Spa trains and hauled the last leg of the trips travelling over the 42 mile long York to Scarborough line.
45562 Alberta is infact 45699 Galatea in disguise. At the time this was recorded 45699 was actually running as two scrapped classmate's as it had 45562 Alberta's cabside numbers & 45627 Sierra Leone's nameplates and smokebox numberplate. As of February 2023 following completion of her 10 yearly overhaul she's still running in this mixed identity.
