A yearly commemoration of Matt McGinn is the"largest" one yet. The Saturday event, the Matt McGinn Remembrance Hootenanny, is to honour the life of the late artist.

More than 20 folk singers, including The Gallowgaitors and Kevin Gore, perform songs by Matt McGinn during the event. Special guests Gavin Patterson and Peter Dale Evans also make an appearance.

The Gallowgate Calypso and Coorie Doon singer, who grew up in the Calton area of Glasgow's East End, was a prominent folk singer-songwriter in the 60s and 70s.

Having been born on Ross Street in January 1928, the event will kick off on the same place in which McGinn was born.

Throughout the day, attendees share tales and reflect on McGinn's life.

Not only was the street specifically chosen but the month was too.

As McGinn was born in January and died in the same month, the event was planned to occur in the first month of the year as another layer of honour.

The event and the blue plaque's organiser, 67-year-old Rutherglen resident James Scott, spoke about the impending day.

"I started this event because I felt that this individual was being neglected in some way," he added.

He is among Scotland's most well-known and talented folk singers.

"The only other Scottish writer we know of who has written that much is Rabbie Burns, and he had written roughly 400 songs and poetry.

I've been a fan of his work from the beginning because all of his works were just fantastic.

Even back in the 1970s, when I first met him, he was a pleasant person to chat to.
