The Speakeasy Club, also known as The Speak, was a club situated at 48 Margaret Street, London, England and served as a late-night meeting place for the music industry from 1966 to June 1978. The club took its name and theme from the speakeasies of the American Prohibition era.
Customers associated with the music industry, ranging from roadies through to The Beatles.
The Who included it in the Radio London / Speakeasy / Rotosound Strings commercial insert for their Sell Out album in 1967.
The Speakeasy hosted performances by Jimi Hendrix, Deep Purple, Bob Marley, David Bowie, and King Crimson.
Barry Gibb "It was virtually a closed club and you went downstairs and there was a coffin and if you were someone they knew and you were supposed to go in, the wall would turn around...There would be (Rolling) Stones lying around all over the place. It was one of those days when I met John Lennon - from the back. It was Pete Townshend who introduced me... (Lennon said), 'Pleased to meet you', and he carried on talking to his guest."
It was here that the Clash's Joe Strummer got beaten up by a Teddy Boy friend of John Lydon and lost a tooth.
The Speak was once owned by the Kray twins.

Andrew Eborn's interview technique.. similar to Michael Parkinson. It was a treat to be interviewed by Andrew Eborn. Better than going to a fun Show-Biz party. So good at his job Exudes warmth but a little dangerous in case he leads you on to indiscretions. He gives you the feeling "just between you and me," without actually saying it. In this way, he knows there is something behind what you are saying even when you manage to shut up about it.
As a lawyer, he knows what questions to ask. As a showbiz personality, he understands that flattery can get someone nearly everywhere.
He makes the event into a party. It is a joyful experience.Thank you, Andrew, for inviting me to your party. Xx Aline Waites,
