You’ve probably heard the names Bill Gates and Paul Allen in connection with the founding of Microsoft, the multinational technology corporation, but have you heard of Ric Weiland? "Yes I Am - The Ric Weiland Story” from out director Aaron Bear chronicles the life of the brilliant programmer and LGBTQ pioneer who was one of the earliest employees of Microsoft. “I think one of the largest philanthropists in the world,” Bear tells Gayety. “Especially giving to LGBTQ organizations. Places like Act Up and GLAAD even before they were anything. Ric was this person behind the scenes.” An out and proud gay man since the ‘70s, Ric Weiland donated over $20 million to AIDS/HIV research and LGBTQ-dedicated organizations in his lifetime.
