The Celtics will sign veteran free agent forward Jake Layman to a training camp deal with a chance to make the team's roster, a source told CLNS Media.

Layman, a 6-8 forward who last played for the Timberwolves, is an option to join the field of wings now headlined by Sam Hauser. He's a career 46% shooter, averaging 4.6 points per game in 12.3 minutes for Portland before scoring 5.1 PPG in a small bump with Minnesota. Layman shot 8-for-35 from three last season (22.9%), is a career 30% from deep and peaked from 2018-2020 at 32.8% on 253 tries. He's a good finisher at the rim, finishing a career-best 77.3% inside three feet last year in 34 appearances and shot 72.2% on free throws.
