Uber And Other Taxi App Driver Shortages In The UK

Taxi Apps like Uber ($UBER@US) and Bolt have failed to connect UK customers to a driver in recent weeks. Hailing a ride at certain times of the day is reportedly almost impossible. Surge pricing has also been implemented when the apps are particularly busy, like late evening or during the weekend. Bolt Co-Founder and CEO Markus Villig said prices are higher than ever, and post-lockdown demand for ride-hailing has rebounded stronger and faster than the company anticipated. Some UK cities served by Uber report demand beyond pre-pandemic levels, and the company is encouraging 20,000 new drivers to sign up to meet demand as cities get moving again.
