Next week at It's Mime Time!: Roland Riefer with "Awakening".
Roland Riefer came to pantomime via improvisation theatre, "fascinated by the freedom inherent in it".
And yet he is one of the original figures of the German improvisation theatre scene. In the 90s he stood in front of large audiences in Tübingen, was part of the beginnings of the improvisation theatre "Steife Brise" in Hamburg, and then moved on to Berlin. Roland Riefer was a scriptwriter for film and television. He is the author of the screenplay for the 2014 Finnish Oscar submission "The Apprentice Boy". As an actor and workshop leader, he draws on a rich storytelling fund.
Wanting to make his stage acting more expressive, he took lessons with Jörg Brennecke, founder and director of the Training Centre for Mime and Pantomime in Berlin. Roland Riefer stayed on and was amazed to discover the undreamt-of possibilities of pantomime. About mime he says "In scriptwriting the principle is: show, don't tell! This is exactly what pantomime does par excellence: it creates images and stories in the minds of the audience. ".
Look forward to Roland Riefer with "Awakening".
