Austrian David Lama, 28, has became the first person to reach the summit of Nepal’s Lunag Ri — until recently one of the highest unclimbed peaks in the world. During a three-day solo ascent, Lama faced extreme weather including minus 30 degrees Celsius (minus 22 Fahrenheit) temperatures and 80 km/h (50mph) winds. The climber did not use ropes for most of his solo climb, which followed three earlier attempts abandoned due to exhaustion, technical issues and a heart attack suffered by his climbing partner. Lama has released video of his fourth climb, as he describes how he finally made the summit.
