A man in Australia has reportedly died after an animal--believed to be a stingray--punctured his lower abdomen.
According to a news release by the Tasmania Police, the 42-year-old victim had been in the water at Lauderdale Beach Saturday when he sustained the injury and went into cardiac arrest.
Stingrays are said to be common in the area, though they are generally not considered dangerous, notes the BBC.
That said, they did make headlines in 2006 after renowned animal expert Steve Irwin died when one punctured him in the heart.
