It’s a brand new season of Japanese football…

And this year, an all-new champion will be leading the way…

Welcome to the 26th edition of the J-League.

Last year, the J-League came to a dramatic conclusion…

As three-time runners-up Kawasaki Frontale claimed their maiden J1 crown in the final round of the season…

Toru Oniki’s men snatched the silverware from right under Kashima Antler’s noses, following a five nil thumping of Omiya Ardija…

Frontale’s 71 goal tally was the best in the league.

While they may have finished level on points with the Antlers, Frontale were streets ahead on goal difference.

Yu Kobayashi, last season’s player of the year, is back to captain his side in their title defence.

This time however, the Kawasaki club will be wanted men.

There’s a few new faces and some familiar ones in 2018…

Last year’s J2 champions Shonan Bellmare join play-off winners, and former J1 champions Nagoya Grampus in a return to the top flight… while J2 runners-up V-Varen Nagasaki hit the big time for the first time in their history.
