This is the video of our real performance that took place on the 14th of February 2017. Prior to the performance, our artistic director attempted for us to have an extra run-through of the programme before the event. However, people were not cooperative and did not listen to her. In the end, we couldn't run through, and I felt that as a group, we should've been more alert and we should have taken her words more seriously, although I was listening to her. I should've asked others to listen to her instead of letting them chatting by themselves. Following that, Xinyee began to get very worried because we weren't able to do a full run through. I felt like giving up, as each time I had to motivate her. I felt that my reassurance wouldn't work, and I tried to ensure that her mind focuses on the task - on getting the spacing right when we could and to get the steps right. In her worry, she told me that she wasn't going to care about the Chinese dance anymore and that she was doing to focus on Rewrite the Stars. I felt that that was not right because it was Chinese New Year after all and we included the dance to demonstrate our great knowledge of Chinese culture. At the last minute, we changed spaces as to where we would like to perform - to be at the back of the aisle. It was a challenge to readjust my mind, but I managed to do so at the end by having confidence in myself. The performance went well, and I was happy with ourselves afterwards, but Xinyee was greatly disappointed because she didn't accomplish one jump well enough. I told her that one thing cannot ruin the dance, and that we still did a great job, but she did not feel better immediately. I then realised that sometimes when working in a team, people take longer to recover from a mistake, and that sometimes it would be good to give their personal space. All in all, I greatly enjoyed having the liberty to dance again, and would keep this dance in my heart forever. I was impressed at how committed we were to it, and that we came up with this in 2 weeks - if it were not for that, we wouldn't have been able to perform this. piece. I learned that you may have to work with people that don't necessarily complement your behaviour, and that working through the wrongs is necessary to produce great things.
