In recent weeks, polls had shown Hillary Clinton leading Donald Trump by a fairly comfortable margin, but, according to a new CNN/ORC Poll, that has changed.


In recent weeks, polls had shown Hillary Clinton leading Donald Trump by a fairly comfortable margin, but, according to a new CNN/ORC Poll, that has changed. 
The gap between the two major party candidates has tightened, with Clinton leading among registered voters by 3 points. Likely voters indicated a 45% preference for Trump compared to Clinton's 43.
Clinton garnered the bulk of the female vote, leading Trump by 53% to 38%. 
Among unmarried women her share was 73%.
Trump proved popular with the men surveyed, married or not, pulling in 54% support.
7% of likely voters said they backed Libertarian Gary Johnson and 2% favored Jill Stein of the Green Party. 
The poll was conducted from September 1 through the 4 and involved 1,001 participants.
