In mid-August, a Penn State professor died after he was reportedly pushed from a cliff.
It was revealed in a courtroom on Wednesday that 56-year-old Ronald Bettig may have initially survived the fall, remaining alive but immobilized for up to 2 days.
Whether or not he was conscious during that time remains undetermined, notes the Centre Daily Times.
That detail was shared as part of a preliminary hearing testimony given by a police investigator and based on a pathology report.
According to CBS News, the individual allegedly responsible for executing the fatal shove is 39-year-old George Ishler, who was friends with Bettig.
Ishler will be tried on charges of murder in the first and third degrees, aggravated assault, conspiracy to commit murder, and tampering with evidence.
Danelle Geier, Bettig’s live-in girlfriend, will also be tried in connection to the murder.
She will not participate in a preliminary hearing as she waived her right to do so, notes CBS News.
