Parliament House: Singapore’s Power Centre

Singapore’s new Parliament House is a cultural landmark and a public building that houses the Singapore’s Parliament. It has replaced the old Parliament House of Singapore, as the old building was facing space constraints to accommodate the increased numbers of MPs. The new Parliament House is a stately building, which is situated in the Civic District of the Downtown Core, within the central business district of this island-nation. Close to the new Parliament House, there are some other buildings like the Supreme Court’s building and the Raffles Place.

The grand construction was made in order to represent stateliness and authority. The building was designed in a contemporary style. The top of the building is in the shape of a prism, which was designed by the former president of Singapore, Late Ong Teng Cheong. This has endowed a modern expression to the traditional dome. The newly formed Parliament House is designed by the Public Works Department, and is not only a place for the parliamentary debates, but even doubles up as a research center.
