A recent study by Scientists in Australia may suggest that eating a bowl of bran and a handful of dried apricots every morning could be enough to reduce sensitivity to allergens and prevent symptoms. Researchers at Monash University working with mice found that increasing the levels of dietary fiber and vitamin A may prevent or reduce allergies, and that boosting gut bacteria using either prebiotics or probiotics many encourage beneficial bacterial development that could prevent allergies from forming. The researchers now say they plan to conduct human trials testing to see whether an increase in dietary fiber could similarly prevent allergies in infants and young children.
