An unexpected Wifi signal in a remote town in Turkey is the spark that inspired one young man to invent, and pushed Elmira Bayrasli to contemplate the connection between wandering the world and bringing growth home. A self-described nomadic storyteller, Bayrasli’s journeys around the world to tell stories of entrepreneurship have led her to conclude that a nomadic life is a key ingredient to innovation. Brain drain, she says, might be the very thing fueling future economic growth.

Elmira Bayrasli is the founder of the World Policy Institute’s Global Entrepreneurial Ecosystems Project and former Vice President for Policy & Outreach at Endeavor, a global non-profit that supports High-Impact Entrepreneurs in emerging markets. She is the author of the forthcoming book Steve Jobs Lives in Pakistan: Extraordinary Entrepreneurs in the Developing World.
