Once again, there’s Japan is leading the way in convenience food innovation! (If “innovation” = “ill-advisement”) A company called Nippon Ham has developed a variety of squid ink pizza, that you can warm up in your toaster oven in under 5 minutes! Because if there’s any food you want cheap and quick, it’s squid ink, right?

The pizza features cheese, squid ink instead of tomato sauce, and some actual squid. Oh, and basil. they sell for about $2.50 each, which is typically less than one would expect to pay for seafood, which is a good and a bad thing.

The folks at RocketNews24 tried one out, and they thought they were well worth the frighteningly low price: http://goo.gl/3jle8T

So, good job, Nippon Ham! (Also, wouldn’t “Nippon Ham” be a good name for a punk rock group? Right?)

Do you like squid, or squid ink? Are you glad those foods are finally transitioning into the convenience food category? How does Nippon Ham’s Squid Ink Pizza rate on your personal scale of Japanese snack foods you’d like to try? Have you given one of these pizzas a try?
