A 300-pound skull fragment belonging to a Columbian Mammoth was recently scanned and x-rayed, making it the first time a skull of this species has undergone a CT analysis. 
San Diego Natural History Museum personnel and doctors at the Naval Medical Center San Diego banded together to perform the truly amazing feat. 
The piece was unearthed at an area construction site about 6 years ago.
