McDonalds has been having a pretty terrible year worldwide, and they’re fighting back against failure in the best way they know how: Creating even more ill-advised, terrible food.

Over in Japan, McDonalds has debuted a new seasoning packet you can sprinkle on your fries, not unlike the ranch seasonings you could get over here in the States (or still can? We’re not sure). But these seasoning packets are flavored like seaweed and cherry blossoms, which is… MAAAAYBE good? If you’re in Japan and willing to spend 25 cents and several hundred calories to tell us if this is better than it sounds, send us a Tweet!

The cherry blossom fries are available only for a limited time, through May. Because, y’know spring.

Back stateside, McDonalds has a new line of Third-pound burgers, which are like Quarter-pound burgers, only heavier. Actually, they seem to most closely resemble McD’s old Angus Third Pound Burgers, except they’re sirloin instead of Angus. Which is a comparison that makes sense to people who have been to McDonald’s more recently than Noah, who hasn’t tried the angus burgers either.

Neither of these innovations seems like they’ll actually make a difference in McDonald’s overall success, as the restaurant chain has suffered a huge decline in sales in the past year, and we doubt a little cherry blossom powder will fix it, because they’re already planning to close hundreds of restaurants worldwide.

Do you think nori and cherry blossom is a great flavor combo? Is it actually already a hugely popular flavor over in Japan, and we don’t know what we’re talking about? Do you think you could tell the difference between a McDonald’s sirloin third pound burger and their Angus Third Pound Burgers? What’s your favorite McDonald’s story of all time?
