Hard Rock Cafe In Malaysia Pulls Orangutan Ads, Apologizes

The Hard Rock Cafe has removed and apologized for the ads featuring an orangutan playing an electric guitar it posted in the capital of the Malaysian state of Sabah.

There are fewer than 40 thousand Orangutans remaining in the wild and among the places the small population lives is on the island of Borneo. 

The Hard Rock Cafe recently opened an outlet on that island in the capital of the Malaysian state of Sabah. 

To advertise their arrival the restaurant chain plastered the city with an ad that featured an orangutan playing an electric guitar. 

The campaign was deemed by many to be in poor taste, as the animal is endangered and Sabah is home to a rescue and rehabilitation center for the primates.
