Mexico: Despite difficulties, June elections will proceed on schedule

Although officials acknowledge that some parts of Mexico are crippled by rampant insecurity, rule by organized crime, and massive corruption, the country's mid-term elections slated for June 7 will proceed on schedule. Federal Electoral Institute president Lorenzo Cordova said that the elections will take place despite what he termed the "complicated situation". Family members of the 43 missing Ayotzinapa students had petitioned for the elections to be cancelled in the State of Guerrero due to large-scale corruption and the presence of organized crime.
