A 13-year-old dog in California is incredibly fortunate to be alive after falling from a high balcony. On Monday, Sammy, a Boston Terrier, tumbled from the 15th story home of his owner, Bill McCourt.

Miraculously, he landed in a jacuzzi, which greatly reduced his injuries and likely saved his life. McCourt explained “Just a little bit to the east of this balcony is a pool and a hot tub and the dog actually went directly into the hot tub. He hit the hot tub instinctively started swimming found the stairs and pulled himself out.”

The dog is partially blind and that condition may have played a role in the fall.

McCourt’s mother had been at the residence during the incident. She initially thought he escaped the condo and took the stairs down to the water, but soon realized he fell through the slats of the railing.

As a result, Sammy suffered from a number of pelvis fractures and five broken ribs. He was taken to an animal hospital after the fall and has since undergone surgery.

According to McCourt, Sammy has already started walking again. He intends to add a fence to the balcony to prevent any more falls in the future.
