On Saturday, a teenager and another individual helped saved a Philadelphia police officer’s life. The cop had been en route to an emergency when his patrol car was struck by a pickup truck.

Within moments, the front of the squad car broke out in flames with Officer Mark Kimsey still inside. 17-year-old Joe Chambers, who is a Ridley Park volunteer firefighter, was watching the TV show ‘Cops’ when he described hearing a loud ‘bang’.

Chambers quickly ran to the burning car and with the help of another bystander, 24-year-old Dante Johnson, they were able to pull the officer out to safety.

Chambers later told reporters Kimsey had been in a state of shock and was in and out of consciousness. The rescuers got to the officer in perfect timing.

Right after his body was half out of the window, the entire engine blew and flames rapidly spread. Johnson and Chambers also managed to save the 52-year-old man in the pickup truck.

Both he and the cop are expected to recover. Chambers said he relied on instinct to get him through the dangerous rescue. He remarked “I just did what I hope anybody else would have done. That's really it.”
