World Heritage day---Chokandi Grave Yard-Nadia Farooq

Chokandi Grave yard, 27 km away from Karachi on National Highway.
More than 600 graves with different art work.
The Chaukhandi tombs are remarkable for the elaborate and exquisite stone carving and belong to Muslim tribe living in 18th and 19th century in this area.
The style of architecture is typical only to the region of Sindh, and unique in that it is found nowhere else in the Islamic world. Generally, the elements are attributed to Jokhio also known as the family graveyard of Jokhio tribe; some people of Baluch tribe also buried were built between the 15th and 18th centuries. Architecture symbols also identifies that grave belongs to man or woman. Sword symbol mean ‘man grave’ & jewelry mark as ‘woman grave’.
