Police Search For Man Who Used Wheelchair And Pepper Spray to Steal Rolex
A thief in Stamford, Connecticut used a wheelchair to fake a handicap and steal a Rolex from a mall jewelry store.
A thief in Stamford, Connecticut used a wheelchair to fake as a handicap and steal a Rolex from a mall jewelry store.
When he arrived he rolled up to a jewelry case and asked to see a watch.
He tried it on, took it off, and asked to see another.
The thief continued to do this until he found the one he liked – a 27 thousand dollar Rolex.
At that point, with the watch still on his wrist, he jumped up from the wheelchair and fled the store.
On the way out he knocked a salesperson back and used pepper spray to deter store personnel from following him.
The entire robbery was caught on surveillance video, but the thief remains at large.
He’s described as black man in his 40s, standing around 6 feet tall and weighing in at 200 pounds.
A Stamford police lieutenant said of the heist, “It’s a shame that he takes advantage of other people’s other handicaps. I think they felt a false sense of security because he was in a wheelchair.”
Police were able to pull fingerprints from the wheelchair. The thief also left without his hat.
