The latest dangerous internet trend is called the fire challenge, which has caused at least one teenager in Lexington, Kentucky to suffer severe burns.

People post videos online where they set themselves on fire after pouring alcohol or putting body spray on their skin.

The 15-year-old who preferred not to give his name, was taken from his aunt’s house to the University of Kentucky hospital, to be treated for his second and third degree burns after he lit himself on fire.

Several videos posted on sites like YouTube, show people self-immolating and screaming, or cursing.

Lexington Fire Department Captain Chris Harrod said: "What they don't show at the end of the videos is the consequences of doing this, getting second and third degree burns."

Child protective services are reportedly looking into the case.
