It's one thing to go to a bar and get a drink, it's another thing to know that the alcohol is coming from right next door. The New York Distilling Co. is one of the places around the US that has taken to making their own alcohol and using it next door at their bar. Co-owner Allen Katz takes us step-by-step through their gin-making process where they can choose their own hints and flavors and make a unique blend. It's like watching an artist paint on a blank canvas of booze. They make 114 proof aka 57% alcohol, commonly known as "Navy strength" gin!
What did you think of the distilling process? Would you give this a shot if you were out at the bars? Do you think more places should make their own alcohol? Do you have access to a lab and making this next weekend?
Let us know what you think in the comments!
In Behind the Drink, we'll make sure you are properly educated before you hit the town and even if you're not really into the bar scene, our drinks expert host and professional bartenders will whip you up some recipes and tricks for kicking back with some fancy cocktails at home. Preferably while in a tux watching classic Bond movies and/or reruns of Mad Men.
