Residents in South Carolina recently got the shock of a lifetime after an alligator was spotted outside a shopping complex.

It was a little after 7 on a Tuesday night, when people first noticed the gator hanging around outside the Tanger Outlets in North Charleston. One witness, Danielle McAdory saw the roughly 7 foot long creature after walking out of a Verizon store.

She said it was resting in the parking lot of a nearby Hardee's Restaurant. McAdory commented “I thought it was strange that a gator could make it that far inland and I was hoping animal control wasn't going to shoot it…”

The police were quickly contacted. Upon arrival, officers along with many shoppers surrounded the gator. The beast reportedly tried to crawl to the main road, but fortunately cops blocked the path preventing it from doing so.

Authorities with the North Charleston Police Department were eventually able to safely contain the gator and place it in the back of a truck. From there, the creature was transported to the Goose Creek reservoir where it was released.
