NBA: WEB USERS APPLAUD DONALD STERLING’S LIFETIME BAN
NBA commissioner Adam Silver has announced the National Basketball Association will be imposing a lifetime ban on Los Angeles Clippers owner, Donald Sterling, over his racist remarks. The ban comes with a heavy fine and has been widely praised online.
Sterling`s life-time ban from the league has certainly set social networks abuzz, hailed on Twitter by several NBA owners, including Mark Cuban and Paul Allen. Important figures in the league who think Adam Silver did what was necessary and praise the way he has handled the affair.
Dozens of professional basketball players past and present have posted similar comments. From Lebron James to Kobe Bryant, to Shaquille O`Neal and also Magic Johnson, many have expressed their relief at seeing an openly racist individual like Donald Sterling being permanently banned from the NBA.
And the decision will no doubt please some of the LA Clippers’ sponsors that, in view of the controversy, had put all ties with the team on hold. Companies like Car Max and Aquahydrate had posted statements on the web publicly slamming Donald Sterling`s remarks, and saying they would not associate with the Californian franchise until exemplary action had been taken against him.
