If birds, like cats, have many lives then an 8-year-old parakeet recently lived through an unimaginable ordeal that could have easily accounted for several of them.

The bird went for a spin in a vacuum cleaner. Marie Margarone is the owner of the parakeet, simply named Birdie. According to Margarone, Birdie snuck into the wet/dry vacuum right before she turned it on.

Margarone had no idea the parakeet was in there. However she soon discovered Birdie in the cleaning device and saw how dire the situation was.

Birdie was barely conscious, as she had lost a ton of blood and her left wing was in horrible shape. Margarone decided to take her pet parakeet to the Angell Animal Medical Center in Boston.

Said Margarone ‘I was convinced that Birdie wouldn't make it given how violently she was thrown around the canister, but she's a member of my family just as my other pets are, and I wanted to do everything I could to help her.’

Doctors were forced to amputate a portion of Birdie’s wing due to an extremely severe fracture. After the surgery, Birdie spent one day in recovery and then returned home with Margarone.
