In one recent and disturbing story, two dogs were discovered attacking their deceased owner’s body. A driver in Mendocino County, California was the first to come across the gruesome sight.

Two dogs were seen mauling a man who was lying on the ground near the road. The motorist immediately contacted authorities for help.

An animal control officer was dispatched to the site. A Rottweiler and a pit bull were standing over the body of the man who was later identified as 51-year-old Pedro Tepale.

The officer yelled at the canines in an effort to get them to move. The Rottweiler responded to the demand by charging towards the animal control authority.

The officer fired his gun twice and the dog was struck by at least one bullet. The Rottweiler attempted to run even after getting shot, but it died a short time later.

The pit bull fled the scene, but it was found later on the same day and turned into the Mendocino County Animal Care shelter. The initial autopsy did not yield a conclusive cause of Tepale’s death, but authorities don’t believe the mauling from his own dogs killed him.
