In an effort to ensure that their precious creatures are kept alive and safe, chicken owners in the United Kingdom are decking out their pets in high visibility, brightly colored bibs.

We may never learn why certain animals cross the road but that's not terribly important to know.

What's more important is that when they do, they do it safely.

Chicken owners in the United Kingdom are decking out their pets in high visibility, brightly colored bibs.

Basically the dress up effort is to allow the chickens to cross the road without getting hit by a car. More and more people are taking in chickens as pets.

However with the autumn season in full swing, that means it's getting dark earlier, right about the time citizens are headed home from work during rush hour.

The fluorescent vests will help drivers in a rush spot the chickens before it’s too late. The company behind the bibs, called Omlet, unveiled the garment earlier this month for a little under $20 a piece.

Simply called, “High Vis Chicken Jackets” they are breathable and shower proof.

They are placed over the chicken’s wings and have an adjustable Velcro attachment at the front. It was noted that although the insulated material could help the bird fend off an attack, it could also cause the chicken to overheat if outdoor or indoor temperatures got too hot.
