With humility and thankfulness, Emelia celebrated her 99th birthday with a party and free shopping spree that she won at the 99 Cents Only Store where she shops weekly after church.
Most people associate the word “rich” with lots of money. However, Emelia De-Four is an example of being truly rich – in character, relationships, and legacy.
With humility and thankfulness, Emelia celebrated her 99th birthday with a party and free shopping spree she won at the 99 Cents Only Store where she shops weekly after church. As dozens of family and friends arrived, she kept saying, “I am blessed, I am blessed, I am so blessed."
Wearing her best dress and often stopping to kiss the children, she walked around gathering things like vegetables, fruit, detergent, and napkins for a cart total of $143.88.
The first things in her cart were 20 prayer candles. She spends 3 hours each day praying.
Living in poverty in Trinidad and Tobago before she came to America 39 years ago, Emelia attended school for 3 years before she lost her mother and had to care for her 15 brothers and sisters.
Called “Mama” by everyone, Emelia not only has 11 children, but also 38 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren. As Mama says, “Children are poor people's riches.”
