Turns out the King of Beers is also the King of the Emergency Room – at one hospital anyway.

In a survey of 105 people who went to a Baltimore, Maryland ER with alcohol-related injuries, 15 percent of them had been drinking Bud prior to their arrival.

Other popular choices included Bud Ice, Colt 45, and King Cobra, all of which are malt beverages containing higher percentages of alcohol than most beers.

The pilot study was conducted by a team from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

They simply went around the room, handed patients a small notebook computer, and asked them to select the evening’s beverage choice from a pulldown menu.

Reportedly, they didn’t have much luck at first, but then the ER team gave them the go-ahead to put on white coats, which helped their mission considerably.

As small as the research effort was its captured the attention of some epidemiologists.

What do you think? Could certain types of alcoholic beverages me responsible for a higher percentage of ER patients?
