Cellphone technicians in Australia that were investigating signal reception interference found that it was being caused by a beer refrigerator in a man’s garage.
The service black out affected several neighborhoods in the town of Wangaratta.

The motor in the refrigerator was disturbing the signal of frequencies around the 850 megahertz spectrum where mobile phone calls and internet data are transferred.

The technicians from Australian cellphone service provider Telstra, discovered that the beer cooler was the problem by using a directional antenna that allowed them to find the exact location of the disturbance.

The owner of the refrigerator, Craig Reynolds was quoted as saying “I'm amazed something like that could knock out part of the network. I'm going to run and see if my fridge is all right next time there's a problem with the network.”

Although this is the first time a fridge has been identified as the source of cell phone service problems, other devices like ATMs and illegal signal boosters have been known to cause signal problems.
