Nivole is a traditional Mangalorean post-natal recipe known for its healing properties. Made with coconut and carom seeds (ajwain), it's designed to aid new mothers in recovery and lactation. This aromatic curry is a must-try for those interested in authentic, health-boosting Mangalorean cuisine.
Nivole Recipe
Ingredients:
1) 1&1/2 Tsp Carom Seeds (ajwain)
2) 2 Tsp Coriander Seeds
3) 1/2 Tsp Peppercorns
4) 1 Tsp Cumin Seeds
5) 3 Red Chillies (Bedgi)
6) 4 Garlic Flakes
7) Small Lemon size Tamarind
8) 1 Onion
9) Grated Coconut
Salt as required
2 Tsp Ghee
Water for grinding
Method of Cooking:
1. Heat a Pan Dry Roast all ingredients from No. 1 to No. 6 separately.
2. Powder the above Dry Roasted Spices with 3 Red Bedgi Chillies.
3. In a Mixer Jar add grated coconut, 1 onion cut, Tamarind, Powdered Spices, 3 Garlic Flakes & grind with water to a fine paste.
4. Heat a Clay Pot & add the grounded masala & the Masala water & adjust its consistency.
5. Add Salt as required.
6. Close the Lid & Let it cook for sometime.
For Tempering:
Heat a Tempering Pan, add 2 Tsp of Ghee & add the sliced onions & fry till the onions turn brown.
Then finally add the Fried Onions tempering to the prepared Nivole.
